Michael Southon: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Interview with Michael Southon (6) | | | | | Sunil | | And how is 'Ezine Writer!' working out? | | | | Michael | | 'Ezine Writer!' has been a steady source of income for me - much steadier than affiliate programs were. But most importantly, it's been much more satisfying to create and sell my own E-Book than act as an affiliate for other people's E-Books. | | | | | | Sunil | | I'm sure a lot of people are also interested in the nitty gritty details of how you accept payment, whether you use passwords and so on. Would you share your experiences on this front? | | | | Michael | | I've always used 3rd Party Credit Card Processors (first ibill and now ClickBank).
I think protecting your intellectual property is one of the biggest headaches in E-Book marketing.
I now direct my customers to a 'Thank You' page where they are given a Username and Password to my download page (which is in a password-protected directory).
This method isn't 100% secure - there are always people who pass on their Username and Password to friends. But I change the Username and Password every 3 or 4 days.
Before that I was protecting my E-Book with Activ E-Book Compiler passwords. I had 5 passwords and a sales page for each of the 5 passwords.
This system was probably more secure than the system I use now. The problem is, it makes 'impulse buying' very difficult. A customer has to first download the E-Book and then go back online to purchase the password. I once had 2 messages in one day from people who said they would have bought my E-Book on the spot, but the process of buying a password etc. was just too complicated. After that, I stopped using E-Book passwords and started selling the book from a password-protected directory. | | | | | Next > >
