Interview with Richard Grady (2)

Sunil    Is working on the Internet your full-time job now?

Richard    Yes, it has been since last year.  I don't make as much money as I used to (yet!) and I work  longer hours, but I enjoy working now and wild horses wouldn't drag me back to the 9 to 5.  I have no intention of ever wearing a suit and tie again (except for weddings and funerals!)

Sunil    I know your online business involves e-books, but it also includes other things too right?

Richard    The beauty of the Internet is that once you spend a bit of time there, one thing leads to another.  My wholesale guide website led to the eBooksnow site and then that led to my third business, www.stylishlogos.com - a business set up to design affordable, yet professional logos.  The other great thing about the Internet is that it costs very little to set up new business - far less than traditional 'offline' businesses.

Sunil    How did you first get interested in e-books?

Richard    I had been trading on online auctions since 1998 and people were always emailing me asking where I purchased my stock.  I decided to prepare a list of the wholesalers that I used, with the intention of offering the list for sale.  At the time I had no idea what an eBook was - the first 'edition' of my directory consisted of approximately 10 HTML pages which I simply emailed to purchasers! Amazingly, despite this highly untidy way of presenting the directory, feedback from buyers was very positive.

Sunil    What e-books have you written so far, and what are they about?

Richard    My first eBook was the 'UK-Traders UK Wholesale Guide'.  This is a directory of UK wholesale sources, intended for the smaller trader who likes to sell on online auctions or markets etc.  I have also written an eBook about selling on online auctions and a guide to starting an eBook business.

Sunil    Are any of your eBooks free, or are they for sale?

Richard    All of my eBooks are for sale.

Sunil    How did you choose topics for your e-books?

Richard    The wholesale guide was written in response to many emails that I received asking for exactly the information that I eventually put in the guide.  I figured that if so many people wanted the information, some would be willing to pay for it.  The other eBooks were a natural progression as my Internet businesses grew and I built up a customer base.
